Tips on How to Build a Raft by Miguel Carlos
It can be fun and enjoyable to ride a raft on turbulent waters. With this, many DIY-ers are thinking how to make a raft to able save money. There are different types of rafts. There is the coastal life raft, offshore life raft, the ocean life raft and others.
The coastal life raft is designed for short -term use and for emergency purposes. They are equipped with canopies to shield lodgers from rudiments. This kind of raft has a single layer of floor and four low-walled sides.
The offshore life raft is designed for sustaining life in difficult climates. It is set with two buoyancy tubes and a roof. Some of its type includes ballast bags which can protect the boat from overturning.
An ocean life raft is designed to help riders survive for a long period of time at sea. This is commonly furnished with many survival gears, canopies for protection and a ballast for prevention from overturning.
How to Make a Log Raft
. Cut marks into the ends of four woods so they will fit together to form shape a frame.
. Fit the logs jointly into markings and tie the cord over the logs in an X form, pounding several times until they are held firmly.
. Connect holes into boards or tie cords around the logs. Draw them underneath to tie around the drums attachment to connect them together.
. Constrict the cords until the logs and the drums or flotation accessories are completely safe. Use a long durable pole to push your raft from the waterline.
How to Make a Survival Raft
. Gather logs with a measurement of 12 feet long and less than 12 inches in diameter and four smaller logs four the braces.
. Use a cutting tool to cut wood problems about a foot from the end of each log, all in “V” form. The cut logs will make it easy to bind rope, vine or twine from one log to another.
. Use slanting beating or square lashings to tie the logs together. Wrap the rope or line multiple times between bordering logs and tie a knot that will hold. Use an adhesive tape to make sure the logs won’t come apart on the water.
. Take another two smaller logs on each end of the raft, and attach them perpendicularly to the bigger logs. By consecutively one below the marks, and one above, and tying the logs jointly tightly closer together on both sides.
. Any floatable materials like plastic barrels or Styrofoamchunks should be fastened to the bottom of your raft. These materials should be sealed, water proof and completely tied together to help resist your weight from sinking down your raft.
