How to Choose an Inflatable Canoe   by Allison Mac

Inflatable canoes can vary greatly depending on the type of water they are best suited for as well as their size and their price range. If you are looking for an inflatable canoe there are a few things you need to know in order to choose the one that well best suit your needs and your budget.

2 Different Types of Inflatable Canoes

There are basically two different types of canoes to look at. The first type is for recreational flat water paddling. This will be the most basic models and they are best suited for those who just want to get out on the lake and enjoy the water. They are often used with families, with dogs, with those who like fishing, camping and all around just having a good time.

The other type of canoe is one that is specifically geared for whitewater paddling. A whitewater canoe will tend to be higher priced, far more rugged and have a slightly different shape that allows it to take on big water and fast moving rivers. They are usually self-bailing meaning they have drain valves that rid the canoe of excess water and can usually be paddled for day use or else for multi-day excursions.

Which type you research will depend on what type of paddling you plan to be doing most.
