Looking At The Market Town Coleford by Simon Haughtone
Located in Gloucestershire England you will find the small market town of Coleford. Located in the west of Forest of Dean. Only four miles east of the border of Welsh. Also located very close to the Wye Valley, where many people enjoy canoeing and walking.
Taking its name because of the two rivers that merge in town center. One of them anyway. Actually one of the oldest towns that is located in Forest of Dean, and industry in its early days was based on coal mining.
Due to that it will differ greatly from other locations in the area. Cinderford is another major town that is part of the Forest of Dean. Architecture that you will find in Coleford is mostly Georgian. Buildings that should be checked out when you visit the location include the following.
The Angel pub, with a beautiful arched entrance, it was once a coaching inn. Fairways Furnishings that use to be Trotters Department Store. And you can’t forget that clock tower located in the center of town.
When it was originally built it was part of the octagonal church which was built back in 1821. In 1882, the church was demolished due to being too small, the clock tower remains. A new church was placed in another location.
A very popular location if you love to bike or walk is Coleford. With the location in the Forest of Dean. Tourism is being pushed more to bring in more people to help the local economy. It is indeed a location that should be considered a place to visit when you’re in England.
Check out not only the walks and cycling trails, but be sure to look at the buildings and the history of the area. Coleford is a place that will lend itself to many great historical tales.
